Featuring Artist Lowk

Eric ‘Lowk’ Liggett

In the words of scripture it says that race was not given to the swift but rather the one that endures to the end. It also encourages us that when we have done all to stand in the face of adversity we must continue to stand!  These inspirational words would prove to be the soundtrack to Eric ‘Lowk” Liggett’s life.

Eric had every reason to quit and honestly who could have blamed him.  Eric was born on December 5, 1984 to his parents Valerie Liggett. Eric never got to meet his father due to the fact he was killed by a drunk driver six days before he was born.  The death of his father would unleash a chain of events that would lead Eric to his own near death experience.

Eric’s mother re-married by the time he was 10. However his step-father was battling his own demons in the form of legal issues which caused him to flee from law officials.  As a result the family was in a constant whirlwind strong as a hurricane off of the Florida coast. They lived from hotel to hotel.  There was even a period in which they were homeless.   Eric would turn to music to escape the hurt and pain.  Even at the age of 8 he learned how to use music to express the darkness in his life. The instability and lack of structure would take an emotional toll on Eric, causing him to become both distant and angry.

By the age of 13 Eric turned to the streets for support, survival, and stability.  As a result of this lifestyle Eric witnessed everything from drugs to gang violence.  Through it all Eric held on to his dream of making it in the music business. He continued to use his music to express himself, and reflect the heartache felt by so many in the urban community.  Eric continued to display these risky behaviors and the violence surrounding him began to increase.

Eric’s best friend was killed in a street brawl, and not too long after Eric found himself in prison serving a 2 ½ prison sentence.  His prison term ended being a blessing in disguise. While in prison Eric matured and became even more focused and determined. He was now able to see the consequences of his actions. Eric became even more motivated and that motivation could be felt in the music he created.

Upon his release everyone could tell Eric was a changed man but that transformation was not complete until he had to embrace fatherhood.  Now he truly had a mission.  He believed that music could present him with an opportunity to provide his children with a better life, the life he never had! Eric is the proud father of Jayden, Troy, and the soon to be born Aliah. Eric is an active member of the Una New Life Center in Una, S.C. where he holds the positions of audio engineer and youth football coach.  Eric his currently working on his album “Respawn”.

Eric’s life has been molded and defined by external pressure. He never gave up and has beaten everything that had once beaten him. He is truly a champion. In life pressure can either make diamonds or bust pipes. Thank God Eric turned out as a diamond shining bright for all of the world to see.
